Schematic Maps On Demand

Note: This page is under construction and not complete.

Summary

Schematic special-purpose maps are designed to convey information of limited scope, such as linear cartograms of public transportation lines. A good schematic map requires a lot of work by a skilled graphic artist. The artist tailors her design to a class of potential users and the collection of queries that users might expect to be answered. In contrast to the current situation, this work aims to produce schematic maps on demand: a map is generated in response to a selected set of constraints. Thus, map production is changed from supply-driven to demand-driven.
