Cartographic Visualisation of Geological Phenomena

Summary

The aim of the project is the development of exemplary workflows for the production of printed and multimedial geological maps, based on data from geographic information systems (GIS). The exemplary dataset used is a part of the geological map of Switzerland 1:500’000 of the Swiss Geological Survey, which has to be transferred from the GIS into graphic and multimedia software. In collaboration with possible users, techniques to analyse geology in two and in three dimensions will be developed. One major aim is to find out, which functions will help to better model and perceive geological and other geo-related features in a multimedia atlas.
